A detective left a note on my door to call him back. I hired an attorney, and the detective is not answering the attorney’s calls. Am I in trouble?

Question: A detective left a note on my door to call him back. I hired an attorney, and the detective is not answering the attorney’s calls. Am I in trouble?

Did the detective leave a business card or just a note? Without a card, I wouldn’t take any “note” left in a door seriously. After all, anybody could write a note claiming to be anyone. While they could also do the same with business cards, they are far less likely to do so as it could cause them more serious problems.

Anyway as soon as your attorney tried to contact the detective, then whatever reason that they wanted to talk with you suddenly became far less important. They probably figured that either your attorney wouldn’t allow you to discuss anything with them or it might “tip their hand” if they explained to him or her (your attorney) what they wanted to discuss with you. Either way, I wouldn’t spend too much time worrying about it.

However, if you are “up to something”, then it might be a good idea to clean up your act. After all, if they know where you live, it doesn’t take much for them to get a warrant and pay you an early morning visit.
